STUART: I’ll see what I can do Richard. As I’ve said, I don’t want to do this, but…
RICHARD: Thank you Stu. Thank you… thank you!
FADE TO:
INT. HORSE AND CARRIAGE – 5:05PM
Traditional looking English pub; lots of brown shades and wooden furniture/pillars. Old illustrations framed upon the walls surround the bar area. Robbie and Steve sit in the far left corner, inside a booth. Robbie sips on his Rum & Coke, Steve on his Pepsi.
ROBBIE: You’ve gotta admit, I set that one up lovely for ya.
STEVE: Lets leave it alone, alright?
ROBBIE: Alright Steve. But it will happen again ya know.
STEVE: Maybe, but I ain’t drinkin’ for a while.
ROBBIE: How come?
STEVE: I didn’t like the followin’ mornin’.
ROBBIE: Haha, lightweight. Anyway, unfortunately for you, today’s not your birthday. So you don’t have any gifts from me.
STEVE: That’s fine. Monday – Seven Stars on Goldhawk Road, right?
ROBBIE: Sure.
CUT TO:
INT. RICHARD & ELIZABETH’S LIVING ROOM – EARLY EVENING
Elizabeth, with a phone in her hand rushes towards the door as she hears the keyhole rattle. Richard comes through the door and heads straight upstairs without paying attention to Elizabeth.
ELIZABETH: Richard? Please, please, please talk with me!
RICHARD: I’m tired. I’m going to bed.
ELIZABETH: I’ll join you.
RICHARD: No. Please… I’d like to sleep alone for a few hours.
ELIZABETH: Richard, we can’t keep going on like this.
RICHARD: I know.
ELIZABETH: We need to talk! Let me talk to you, let me apologize. Explain. Let’s work this out. Please!
Richard disappears from the stairway.
CUT TO:
INT. STEVE’S LIVING ROOM/KITCHEN – EVENING
Steve rips open a new video game and puts it on. As the introduction to the game starts, he enters his kitchen and takes out two huge steaks from his fridge. He carefully places them onto his George Foreman grill and takes out some ice cream from the freezer as they begin cooking. He turns to face the TV and watch the game’s introduction while he eats from the tub.
CUT TO:
INT. RICHARD & ELIZABETH’S BEDROOM – EARLY AM
Richard wakes up naturally. He puts on some new clothes, places his wallet in his pocket and leaves the room.
INT. RICHARD & ELIZABETH’S LIVING ROOM
Richard passes by Elizabeth, asleep out on the settee. He looks at her and nervously smiles. Then he carefully, quietly opens and shuts the front door, leaving.
CUT TO:
INT. ’86 FORD ESCORT (SLOWING DOWN)
Richard drives up to a town home in a suburban street before stopping and exiting the car.
EXT. PORCH – STUART’S TOWN HOME
Richard knocks softly on the front door twice. Within a minute, Stuart answers. He hugs Richard to greet him.
STUART: [awkwardly smiling] How are you holding up, my friend?
RICHARD: I’m the same. It won’t change Stu.
Stuart sighs.
STUART: Come in.
The two enter Stuart’s home.
INT. STUART’S OFFICE
A very tidy office with an computer, fax, phone and mod-cons. Framed certificates and filing cabinets surround the room. Stuart shuts the door securely and sits behind the desk as Richard sits in one of two chairs in front of it.
STUART: [lowering his voice] I looked into it.
RICHARD: And?
STUART: Twenty-five thousand.
RICHARD: When would it happen?
